CEP 810 | Teaching Understanding with Technology
Online, Summer 2011
Instructors: Carolyn McCarthy and Sandra Plair
This was my first course in the MAET program. While the course name is about teaching, I left the course being more aware and understanding of my own learning. We explored our own learning styles, collaborated around our own significant interests, and explored how to use technology to be productive. Understanding myself as a learner and user of technology prepared me to approach later courses with a beginner’s mind. You can read more about my thinking at the time by reading through my reflections.

CEP 811 | Adapting Innovating Technology to Education
Online, Fall 2011
Instructor: Nancy L. Ayers
In this course we explored how to adapt and use technology in education. To that end, we created a stand-alone instructional resource. I created a StAIR project using Keynote with the purpose of teaching students about MLA referencing. You can find and download my project on the MERLOT website.

CEP 812 | Applying Educational Technology to Practice
Online, Fall 2011
Instructor: Tammy Maginity
During this course we explored how to use the TPACK model to approach problems in our teaching practice. I used the TPACK model to deal with building a digital community at my school through a blog network. I am proud to say the blog network is now up and running. While it hasn’t achieved its goal of building community yet, it is on its way and I have this course to thank for getting it started.

CEP 817 | Learning Technology through Design
Online, Spring 2012
Instructors: Punya Mishra and Kristen Kereluik
This course was unique out of the bunch in that it seemed more like a design thinking course than an education or technology course. I appreciated the use of seemingly non-educational resources, such as Understanding Comics by Scott McCloud, to push our thinking about learning and technology. In this course I created a subversive presentation that I still use with students to teach Creative Commons and a literacy project website to teach researching and searching.

CEP 891 | Online Reading and Learning in the Digital Age
Online, Spring 2012
Instructors: Michelle Schira Hagerman, Paul Morsink and Rand Spiro
Google is making us stupid. That’s a comment people like to make when I talk about e-books or Wikipedia. But rather than just chuckle at questions like this, we explored research and delved into the topics of online reading and the implications for our students. There was a great deal of theory in this course that pushed my thinking about how our students read and learn. I built on the literacy project website from CEP 817 in this course.

CEP 800 | Learning in School and Other Settings
Dublin, Summer 2012
Instructor: Leigh Graves Wolf
CEP 800 – Learning in School and Other Settings
In this course we discussed published theories of learning as well as our own anecdotal experiences. We were pushed to reconcile our own ideas and outlooks with what is generally understood as the way people learn. TPACK played a prominent role in our discussion as did our reading and arguing about D.T. Willingham’s book Why Don’t Students Like School? We also created an e-book to share with others about current buzz words and key topics in education. I explored the topic of “flipped” classrooms and contributed with a short article.

CEP 815 | Technology and Leadership
Dublin, Summer 2012
Instructor: Leigh Graves Wolf
I completed this course as part of a month-long, face-to-face learning experience in Dublin, Ireland. The course required all Year 2 cohort students to plan, execute and participate in a free, educational technology conference for the Irish education community. More than any other learning experience in my career, this is the course that showed me what it means to be an educational leader. As a member of the conference planning team, I gathered data about the attendees and their interests to inform our conference program. As a conference presenter, I delivered a workshop with a partner on digital portfolios.

CEP 822 | Approaches to Educational Research
Dublin, Summer 2012
Instructor: Leigh Graves Wolf
I admire my professors, because they chose to snuggle up to data and research. I however, have tried to avoid that aspect of education and was dreading this course at first blush. My professor in Dublin, Leigh Graves Wolf, did the impossible and made educational research relevant to my practice as a teacher and learner. Through projects like the Understanding Understanding Project and our DreamIT proposal I learned to apply research to things that matter to me and my students. I no longer see journal articles as required footnotes, but rather resources for ideas and solutions to problems.

CEP 820 | Teaching K-12 Students Online
Online, Spring 2013
Instructors: Sean Leahy, Andrea Zellner and April Niemela
This was a challenging course that required us to create an online learning module. I created a website to accompany a hybrid unit on advertising and persuasion with eighth graders. More than anything, this course taught me the importance Understanding by Design and TPACK – beginning with the end in mind and trying to find the sweet spot of learning at the intersection of technology, pedagogy and content.

CEP 807 | Proseminar in Educational Technology
Online, Spring 2013
Instructors: Matthew Koehler, Andrea Zellner, Joshua Rosenberg, William Cain, Chris Sloan, and Michelle Schira Hagerman
In this course we developed a portfolio to synthesize our learning during the MAET program. I am grateful for this course, because without it I might not have had an opportunity to reflect on the depth and breadth of learning I experienced in this program. I left this course understanding and appreciating reflection in the learning process. The final artifact is the website you are reading right now.
