The constructivist workshop allows a lot of independence on the part of the learners. They can construct their learning using a variety of tools and resources. Additionally, the content itself is web-based. The choice of technologies during this program is directly related to the tools and resources we will be studying. The Google Site will be a model of how a teacher could use the site for classroom purposes. The blog will be a discussion space exposing teachers to the idea of threaded commenting and how such a tool could be used in class.
Teachers will gradually be given responsibility and opportunities to engage with the spaces. In the case of the Google Site, teachers will be able to edit pages and embed things they’ve created. For the blog, teachers will be able to create WordPress accounts and use them to initially comment on posts before composing and publishing posts themselves. Teachers will be encouraged to communicate in new and different ways afforded by the technology. For example, publishing video or audio comments. Embedding Google Drawings or mind maps. This will expose them to new ways of using tools rather than using them to do the “same old thing.”
